Local Fixture

Local Fixture has become a community staple in Whittier that features unique gifts, quality brands, premium coffee, and a variety of eclectic workshops.

Local Fixture is owned by Jason and David, brothers, that both settled down in Whittier with their families. They opened up Local Fixture five years ago in December of 2013 after making frequent visits to Uptown Whittier. They found the area incredibly charming and full of potential, so when they found the space on Bright Avenue they knew they had to make their move because they saw something special.

“Our goal with Local Fixture was to create a place in the community that would become a "local fixture".  We knew it wouldn't happen over night but that if we constantly focused on fulfilling the needs of the community, that people would react positively to our concept.”

It first started off as a retail store that featured unique gifts and brands that were hard to find in Whittier. Their “Whittier Local” apparel and their Patagonia section was, and remains, their most popular brands.

Once retail was established they wanted to add another element the community could benefit from. Jason said at the time there weren’t many specialty coffee shops in the area, so they set their sights on adding a specialty coffee bar. They began a partnership with Stumptown Coffee Roasters of Portland. All of their coffee beans are roasted to order and are delivered weekly to ensure their customers get the freshest beans possible. They even have their baristas trained by Stumptown Coffee to ensure the finest quality.

Their most recent venture is their event space. This space is the home of a variety of workshops and classes and is also available to rent. They hold yoga and fitness classes weekly that are super popular and they plan on adding more classes soon. They also hold a variety of workshops like arts and crafts, succulent planting, movie nights, and many others. David even had his wedding ceremony in the event space last year!

As far as their vibe, they strive to be unique (mission accomplished) and pull inspiration from different boutiques they’ve visited during their time traveling. They also try to instill a chill vibe with their staff and believe that it’s their uniqueness that sets them apart from other stores in Whittier.

Jason and David credit their success to always having an open mind and constantly being curious. They believe in embracing change and always continuing to innovate. As far as the future, their goal is to continue to meet the needs of the community.

If you’ve never been to Local Fixture before, Jason wants you to know…

“I would want them to know about the special lunch menu at 6740, its one of the best values in Uptown Whittier. Ok, but on a serious note I would like them to know that Local Fixture is much more than just a store, its a place to gather with friends,  hang out at the communal table and meet local neighbors, grab a coffee and peruse the aisles for that perfect gift or  relieve some stress in one of our yoga classes.”

Fun Fact: Jason’s favorite thing about Whittier is the dog park! He and his family love taking their golden retriever, Charlie.
